AARON CORMICAN WINS ASP 2-STAR EAST COAST SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Held in clean 2’ – 3’ surf at Virginia Beach, VA, Sunday’s action completed a five-day run of ASP events including men’s, women’s, juniors and longboard divisions.

Cormican looked destined for winner’s dais following the execution of his patented “Gorkin” inverted aerial in the semifinal for the event’s high score of a 9.75 out of a possible 10. His momentum continued to build throughout the final as he dispatched challengers Kyle Garson (Melbourne Beach, FL), Alek Parker (Melbourne, FL) and Brandon Ragenovich (San Clemente, CA).

In the women’s $5,000 one-star WQS event, history was made as 13-year old Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA) dominated the entire week amassing the five top-scoring waves in her division en route to the podium. Her light-footed attack made short work of fellow finalists Anastasia Ashley (Newport Beach, CA), Maria Gonzales (San Juan, PRI) and Darlene Connolly (Del Mar, CA).

The ASP $5,000 grade-one Pro Junior division featured the usual suspects with Nick Rozsa (Oxnard, CA) taking out Nils Schweizer (New Smyrna Beach, FL), Eric Geiselman (New Smyrna Beach, FL) and Chris Ropero (St. Augustine, FL) in the finals. The ASP North American Pro Junior series has been hotly contested all year and the ECSC event may prove pivotal running into the business end of the 2006 season.

The ASP $5,000 one-star Longboard event saw Mikey DeTemple (FL) noseriding his way to a victory over Alex Knost (Newport Beach, CA), Josh Autrey (St. Augustine, FL) and Joseph Aaron (Capistrano Beach, CA).

The next event on the ASP North America tour will be the Newport Pro presented by Jeep held at 56th Street in Newport Beach, CA from September 20 – 24, 2006. However, don’t miss a second of action as the world’s best from the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour come to Lowers for the $280,000 Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Hurley from September 12 – 16, 2006.
