Courtney Conlogue (USA), 19, earned the top scores of Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro competition today while advancing to the Round of 12.

OCEANSIDE, California/USA (Friday, August 10, 2012) ? The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro returned to Oceanside Pier for day two of competition and saw a day of dominant performances from ASP Women?s WCT surfers.

The Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro?s Round of 80 format represents the largest qualifying event for the 2013 ASP WCT and is also the only women?s qualifying event on the 2012 ASP North America schedule.

Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA), 19, built momentum in her Round of 24 heat, opening her assault with two 7-point rides and went on to blast the day?s highest scores. The talented Californian went on to net the day?s highest single wave score of a near-perfect 9.70 out of 10 for an impressive frontside air and competed her campaign with a combined 17.40 heat total while advancing to the Round of 12.

?The waves are pretty fun but they?re a little tricky,? Conlogue said. ?They?re a little walled, so I figured I?d just go for one big turn and I?m really stoked that I got through that heat. It was definitely good to get that 9.70. I was able to let my hair down after I got those two 7s I figured I?d test to see how I can push it in my heat. I?ve been working on those kinds of things in my free surfs and haven?t really brought them to the table in contests yet.?

Rebecca Woods (AUS), 27, ASP Women?s WCT veteran, maintained her consistency, taking out her second consecutive heat victory and looked at home in Oceanside?s peaky beachbreak conditions.

?It was a tricky heat and there was a lot of potential,? Woods said. ?All the girls are young and out there to win, but it was nice to get some lefts out there. I was carrying a Round of 48 result and moving in to the Round of 12, it feels good to get through.?

Woods, current No. 6 on the ASP Women?s World Rankings, is in need of a result at the Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro in order to rejoin the ASP Top 17 for next year and hopes her performance in Oceanside will alleviate some stress entering the final European leg of the season.

?I haven?t really been trying to put pressure on myself for this event,? Woods said. ?I was just looking at this event as a bonus because I?m probably going to have to go to Europe anyway, but a strong result here will take the pressure off. I?ve got four really good results so making it to the Quarters or Semis would be great. It?s been a tricky year on the WCT and I?m just looking to better my performance.?

Jacqueline Silva (BRA), 33, was another ASP WCT veteran to standout today, taking two commanding heat wins in both the Round of 48 and the Round of 24 with calculated wave selection.

?I?m pretty happy,? Silva said. ?In that first heat there were lots of waves and the last one was a little slow so I was a little nervous at the end of the last heat. The final heat was so stressful because the girls only needed a small score at the end.?

Silva, who finished 18 on the ASP WCT, is also in need of a result to retain her position amongst surfing?s elite and hopes she can continue to climb the rankings to finish out the season.

?The first four of five events, I didn?t have any good results, but I did better in the last event in Peru and here,? Silva said. ?I?m going to try and keep going because I need points, I need better results to jump up in the ratings and that?s what I?m hoping for.?

Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro competition will recommence for the final day of competition tomorrow at 11:30am local time and will be webcast live via www.supergirljam.com
