RANGIROA, French Polynesia (Monday, April 1, 2013) – The best surfers under 21-years-old from all over Australasia are preparing for the second event on the 2013 ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series, the Rangi Pro Junior. Held on the reef pass of Rangiroa, one of the largest atolls in the Tuamotus in French Polynesia, the surfers are set to take on some world-class waves over shallow, sharp reef.

The Rangi Pro Junior is hosted by the Tahitian Surf Federation and contest organiser Philippe Klima is proud to have an event of this size in his home country.

“It’s a great opportunity for the local Tahitian surfers to test themselves against the Australian and other international surfers,” Klima said. “It will also help them get some points and experience competing at ASP events that will hopefully prepare them for their future surfing careers.”

Dane Jordan, ASP Australasia General Manager is excited to see the Pro Junior Series return to French Polynesia, as it will help the young surfers prepare for life as a traveling professional surfer.

“The ASP, the surfers and the fans are all excited about returning to Rangiroa for the 2013 Rangi Pro Junior,” Jordan said. “The tiny island produces truly world-class waves and we’re looking forward to seeing how our young surfers take on the challenge. Last year’s winner isn’t a junior anymore so the door is wide open for someone to step up and take the title.”

The event waiting period begins tomorrow and the surf is forecast to be small for the first few days and build towards the end of the week.
