Filipe Toledo has officially withdrawn from the ASP World Junior Championships.

JOAQUINA BEACH, Florianopolis/BRA (Sunday, October 27, 2013) – ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) Rookie Filipe Toledo (BRA), 18, has officially withdrawn from the 2013 HD World Junior Championships presented by Devassa following an unfortunate ankle sprain during a casual soccer game yesterday.

Toledo, currently ranked 14 on the ASP WCT, was a top seed hoping to clinch a maiden ASP World Junior Championship crown on native soil, but will now be sidelined for several weeks due to the injury.

“I’m very, very disappointed that I’ve had to withdraw from the event,” Toledo said. “I was really hoping to win this contest in Brazil and it’s unfortunate that I won’t be able to compete now. I was playing soccer with friends yesterday and sprained my ankle. I went to the doctor immediately and will be out of the water until November 8.”

Toledo could return to competition as early as the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

The Men’s HD World Junior Championships Holds a waiting period from October 29 through November 5, 2013 and is webcast LIVE via Watch the HD World Junior Championships presented by Devassa LIVE via http://www.hd-wjc.com/
