Lay Day Called for Volcom Fiji Pro, Swell Approaching :: Pro Surfing News

CLOUDBREAK, Tavarua/Fiji (Wednesday, June 5, 2013) - After monitoring conditions throughout the morning, event officials have called Volcom Fiji Pro competition off for today, with smaller two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves on offer at Cloudbreak.

Stop No. 4 of 10 on the ASP WCT, the Volcom Fiji Pro completed the first 10 heats of competition in firing four-to-six foot (1-1.5 metre) barrels yesterday and action could return as early as tomorrow with a new swell on the way.

“While there are some good waves out there today, we’re expecting excellent conditions for the remainder of the waiting period and have decided to call competition off for today,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “We’ll be back tomorrow morning at 6:30am to make a call for a restart to competition.”

Surfline, official forecasters for the Volcom Fiji Pro, have called for:

New SW swell will begin building in the late afternoon Wednesday, peaking Thursday with very solid surf. A decreasing trend takes over Friday, although surf remains solid, with decent size leftovers on Saturday. Medium size SW swells are on track for Sunday and again on Tue/Wed.

When competition resumes, up first will be Jeremy Flores (FRA), 25, Nat Young (USA), 21, and Kolohe Andino (USA), 19, in Heat 11 of Round 1.
