Australia’s Cooper Chapman will face off against American Conner Coffin in Quiksilver Open Japan Quarterfinal No. 1.


TSURIGASAKI BEACH, Ichinomiya/Chiba (Saturday, June 1st, 2013) - The 2013 Quiksilver Open Japan has narrowed the field down through the Round of 16, deciding the event’s Quarterfinalists in front of a filled crowd at Tsurigasaki Beach in Ichinomiya, Chosei, Chiba, Japan.

The opening event on the 2013 ASP Japan schedule, the Quiksilver Open Japan was greeted with improved weather and clean four-to-six foot waves to for the day’s action and will crown a champion tomorrow.

Australian Mitch Crews (AUS) led the Quiksilver Open Japan Round of 32, posting a high heat-total of 15.43 out of 20 to advance to the Round of 16. Crews carried the momentum on the Round of 16, where he posted a near-perfect 9.33 out of 10 single wave score to cap off his Run, advancing to the Quarterfinals.

Fellow Aussie Garrett Parkes (AUS) was also a standout, taking a convincing heat victory as well. Parkes earned a 14.54 heat total in the Round of 32 and finished second in his Round of 16 heat to cap off his road to the Quarterfinals.

Crews and Parkes will face off against one another in Quarterfinal No. 2 tomorrow.
