BARRA DA TIJUCA, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (Friday, May 10, 2013) - The Colgate Plax Girls Rio Pro has been called on this morning in clean two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves at the punchy beachbreak of Barra Da Tijuca.

Stop No. 5 of 7 on the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), the Colgate Plax Girls Rio Pro recommences this season’s hunt for the world surfing crown and the world’s best female surfers will do battle today at one of Rio de Janeiro’s premiere beachbreaks.

“The swell has dropped slightly, but conditions are clean and we’ve scheduled a whole day of women’s surfing starting at 7am,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “Round 1 commences at 7am and we’ve placed Rounds 2 and 3 on standby. We’ll monitor conditions throughout the day and make adjustments accordingly. Good luck to all our competitors today.”

Up first this morning will be Lakey Peterson (USA), 18, Bianca Buitendag (ZAF), 19, and Rebecca Woods (AUS), 28, in the opening heat of the event.
