COOLANGATTA, QLD/Australia (Friday, September 20, 2013) – The 2013/2014 ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series will get underway this weekend with the ASP 1-Star rated Maxum Women’s Pro Junior at Cronulla as a part of the two-day Dominelli Group Women’s Surf Classic. The event has on offer $2000 prize-money, valuable ASP Pro Junior Series ranking’s points and sponsorship opportunities with Maxum Watches.

The Maxum Women’s Pro Junior will kick off a new three-year partnership between Surfing NSW, ASP Australasia and Maxum Watches. Dane Jordan, ASP Australasia General Manager is proud to have this new event added to the women’s Pro Junior Series, and looks forward to seeing the inaugural Maxum Women’s Pro Junior run and won this weekend.

“It’s great to have Maxum Watches supporting women’s surfing,” Jordan said. “The ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series is a vital step in the career path for young aspiring professional surfers. This weekend at Cronulla we will get a chance to see the future surf stars coming through the ranks just like current ASP World Championship Tour surfers Stephanie Gilmore and Sally Fitzgibbons did in the past.”

Mitch Tighe, Brand Manager of Maxum Watches is thrilled about the up-and-coming event, and can’t wait to see who claims the inaugural Maxum Women’s Pro Junior event title.

“We’re very excited to be involved in women’s surfing,” Tighe said. “Maxum as a brand really identifies with the Australian surf culture and lifestyle, so aligning with an event like the Maxum ASP Women’s Pro Junior is a great way to give back to the sport.”

Luke Madden, Surfing NSW Event Manager and all of the Surfing NSW crew have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event happen, and they’re looking forward to a great weekend of surfing action at Cronulla.

“Surfing NSW are delighted to be aligned with such a promising event,” said Madden. “It’s terrific to be working alongside both Maxum watches and the ASP on an event that we hope to continue to grow in the years to come. A big thanks must go out to the Sutherland Shire community for embracing this event with open arms.”

Paris Whitaker (Cronulla, NSW/AUS), who recently finished 3rd in the NSW State Titles U16 division and 4th in Open division at the Aussie titles is excited to have an event of this size and scale at her homebreak, Cronulla. Yesterday, Whitaker and a crew of other Maxum Women’s Pro Junior competitors had the opportunity to listen and learn from 7 times ASP Women’s World Champion Layne Beachley in a workshop put together by Surfing NSW.

“I’m really looking forward to the event,” Whitaker said. “I think it’s really great to have an event like this in my hometown, there’s a lot of good local surfers who might not usually travel to other events who will now get the opportunity to compete. Now we get to have all the top girls come here and we get to compare ourselves against them. I’d really like to do well in the event, and set myself up for a good year on the ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series next year. We had so much fun hanging out with Layne Beachley yesterday, she was telling us to never give up and if you want to get to the top you have to work for it, she was very inspirational!”
