When competition resumes, Travis Logie (ZAF), 34, will take on Adam Melling (AUS), 28, in Round 2 of the Rip Curl Pro Portugal pres. by Moche.
SUPERTUBOS, Peniche/Portugal (Tuesday, October 15, 2013) – Event organizers at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal presented by Moche have placed competition on hold this morning and will re-assess conditions at 12pm to decide wether or not conditions allow a re-start.
Stop No. 9 of 10 on the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), the Rip Curl Pro Portugal experienced major drama in the race for the ASP World Title during yesterday’s Round 2 heats and the world’s best surfers are poised to resume competition when conditions improve.
“The swell has dropped so we’ve decided to put the event ON HOLD,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge stated. “Maybe we’ll get a start this afternoon, a new swell is on its way, if it comes early we’ll get a go, we’re just covering our bases. Conditions look more favorable for the upcoming two days and hopefully we can send the surfers in quality surf for the later rounds.”
Event organizers will reconvene at 12pm to assess conditions for a possible re-start to the second round.
When competition recommences, up first will be C.J. Hobgood (USA), 34, up against Yadin Nicol (AUS), 27, in Heat 5 of Round 2.
